Handcrafted with care from scratch, our sourdough bread is baked daily using time-honoured methods and natural fermentation. Each loaf carries a subtle tang and a rich, satisfying crust — perfect for sandwiches, toast, or just enjoying the warmth of a fresh bake.

Soft, slightly chewy, and baked with care — our English muffins are a staple in the kitchen. They’re lightly toasted and ready to be paired with butter, jam, or your favourite spread.

Warm, chewy, and full of character — our bagels are baked with care and come in a range of classic and seasonal flavours. Whether you're craving a simple plain bagel or something with a touch of spice, there’s a style for every taste.

Made with care

Our breads and baked goods are made with 100% unbleached white bakers’ flour and/or whole wheat bread flour. Unbleached flour is flour that has aged naturally after being milled and has a denser grain than bleached flour. It takes longer than bleached flour to produce — and that’s why it’s more expensive. It also has no benzoyl peroxide or other bleaching agents. Bread flour or bakers’ flour has a higher protein content than all-purpose flour. That extra protein helps give artisan baked breads their characteristic flavour — a little more chew, a little more depth, baked slowly and with care.

The Cove Bakery is a small, family-run micro-bakery, serving St. John’s, Portugal Cove-St. Philips, and nearby communities. I started baking after completing my training at George Brown College, where I learned the fundamentals of artisan breads and the science behind great flour, and I’ve carried that passion into every loaf, muffin, and bagel I bake today.

We’ve been making sourdough and handmade baked goods since 2022, and over the years we’ve proudly supplied local restaurants, cafes, and other bakeries with our fresh, naturally fermented products. Every batch is made with care, using 100% unbleached flour and time-honoured methods. No shortcuts. Just real ingredients, slow fermentation, and a little bit of community spirit.
